Mary Lorene (Hetherington) Brooks-Chandler

June 10, 1924 - September 26th, 2020

Mary Lorene (Hetherington) Brooks-Chandler formerly of Houston, Tx passed away September 26th, 2020 in San Marcos, Texas.

Mary Hetherington was born June 10, 1924 in Reagan, Texas to Sam and Jessie “Mamie” Mae (Carter) Hetherington. She was the youngest of 10 siblings in the Hetherington household.  After graduating from Reagan High School, Mary left for Houston, Tx to attend Jeff Davis Nursing School graduating as a registered nurse.  She spent the next 40+ years seeing to the needs of her patients and managing various medical departments while raising a family.   Although Mary spent most of her adult life in Houston, Tx, she always kept in touch with her siblings and relatives back home in Reagan and surrounding counties.  Throughout her life she kept her faith in God and studied her bible daily.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol and son in law, Ray; three granddaughters, Jaimie, Heather, and Leanne; three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Bryce and Cody;  and nieces, Judith Purdy, Mary Barham, and Janice Hamn along with other various nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mamie (Carter) Hetherington; her son, David; her siblings, Margaret L Kveton and Raymond Samuel Hetherington; and her half siblings, Mamie Lucy Alston, Lillie “Anna Mae” Brown, Benjamin “Franklin” Hetherington, John “Johnnie” Hetherington, Effie I Suitt, Bessie L Hetherington, Lillie M Aston, William “Sammie” Hetherington, and Clarence Benjamin “Ben” Hamrick.  She is also preceded in death by her husbands, Henry A Brooks and Eldridge Chandler.

On a trip back home in her golden years, Mary visited the places she loved dearly as a child growing up in Reagan.  While visiting her parents’ and grandparents’ graves, she stated she wanted to come home at the end of her life where her life began and be buried by her father.  She said she had always been a daddy’s girl.  Therefore, she did indeed come home and was buried in Covington Cemetery next to her father and the rest of her family.  In this time of our family’s sadness I remember her always saying in trying times. “This too shall pass”.
