Nora Esther Irene Meyer Kersten

Nora Esther Irene Meyer Kersten was born Aug. 6, 1927, on the family farm near Perry in Falls County to Christian and Rosa Drews Meyer and passed away June 4, 2022, at the age of 94. She was baptized on Sept. 4, 1927, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Riesel and confirmed on April 6, 1941, at the same church. 

Nora met Roy Kersten at a yard party before he left for the military during World War II and they became engaged upon his return from the occupational forces of Japan in 1946 They were married on Oct. 30, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Riesel, Texas and celebrated 63 years of marriage before Roy passed away in September 2010. 

She loved working on the farm, gardening, cooking and making a home. She read cookbooks and gardening books like most people read novels. Family and friends were important and she kept close to their all of them. 

She and Dad loved sporting events. They watched their grandchildren play football and basketball all the way from T-ball through high school. They loved watching their Marlin Bulldogs football and basketball games, the Baylor Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

In addition to Roy, Nora was preceded in death by her parents; brother Ruben Meyer and his wife Iris, sisters Dora Papendorf and her husband Edmond, and Laura Siss and her husband Herbert; great-grandson Matthew Polster; and by Roy’s family. 

Survivors include daughter, Peggy Polster and husband Wayne of Yoakum; sons, Jimmy Kersten and wife Jane of Riesel and Randy Kersten and wife Holly of Galveston; grandchildren, Travis Kersten and wife Kathy of Blanco, Nathan Polster and wife Teresa of Cuero, Todd Kersten of Riesel, Meredith Kersten and partner Kristen Smuland of Austin, Brittany Reeves and husband John of Birmingham, Ala.; adopted granddaughters, Anna Schnack and husband Erik of Lake Charles, La., and Eva Papendorf of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Darby, and Brenna Kersten of Blanco, Christian, Courtney and Hayden Polster of Cuero, Lane, Sawyer and Harper Schnack of Lake Charles, La.; godson, Russell Summers of Round Rock; nieces and nephews, Evelyn Summers and husband Joe of Mart, Donnie Papendorf and wife Linda of Dallas, JoAnn Carpenter of West, Jerry Kersten and wife Parma of Dallas, Charlotte Ann Massey of Springfield, Mo.; and adopted niece, Jeannie Dickerson of Robinson. 

Visitation was held on Monday, June 6, 2020, from 5-7 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin. Services was held on Tuesday, June 7, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 432 Houghton, Marlin, Texas. Interment will be beside her husband in Hillcrest Cemetery near Marlin.

Pallbearers will be Travis Kersten, Nathan Polster, Todd Kersten, Jim Kersten, Russell Summers, Jerry Kersten. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Kersten, Wayne Polster, Donny Papendorf and Joe Summers.
