O.A. “Jack” Mills

O.A. “Jack” Mills first set foot on this Earth Aug. 28, 1932, in Winters, Texas, and continued to grace everyone with his charm and savvy until May 24, 2019. He was a good God-fearing man, and lived his life as only one of God’s chosen would live. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, caring for his family as only a good, God-fearing man would. He was a Deacon of several churches he attended throughout his life, including Avenue Baptist Church in Hereford, Texas, and Trinity Memorial Baptist Church in Marlin, Texas. Mr. Mills was installed as a Mason in 1984, in Lodge #849, located in Hereford, Texas. He was very well educated and respected in the varied trades he pursued over his life. He was a Master Painter, carpenter, working in construction, and finished his storied career with the Construction and Maintenance Department of Deaf Smith County, Hereford, Texas. Anyone who knew him would have nothing but great things to say about him … loved by all, respected by many, touching every life he came in contact with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Ellen Mills, of Levelland, Texas; sister, Monteen Phillips, also of Levelland, Texas; and brother, Dillard Mills, of Huntsville, Texas. He actively courted, and married Wynell Brooks, of Levelland, Texas, on March 28, 1953, and moved to Hereford, Texas in 1960. After a good life of working in Hereford, they moved to Marlin, Texas, August 2001. He was faithful & true to only her for 49 years, until her death on June 6, 2002. They were reunited May 24, 2019 in what could only be described as a Heavenly Party of Biblical proportions. Surviving Mr. Mills are his daughter, Kimbera M. Jones and her husband Rodney W. Jones, of Dallas, Texas; and one grandson, James E. Christy III, of Riesel, Texas. Although the families are small, they are still the best of kin.
