Omelia Clara Allen Cox

Omelia Clara Allen Cox is also known as Aunty to all her dearly loved nieces and nephews and Mrs. Cox to her many students.

Omelia was born on March 14, 1935, to Wilbur Lodwick Cleveland and Pauline Rachel Stover Cleveland in Tomball. She was the eldest of three children. Her siblings are Emma Kathleen Cleveland Richardson and Wilbur Lodwick Cleveland. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Marlin where she was the pianist and in years past helped with the youth group and Working for Christ program.

She grew up in Ganado and graduated from high school in 1953. She went to school to be a missionary but did not feel her health was good enough, so she chose to become a teacher. She attended college at Phillips University in Enid, Okla., where she obtained a BA in Education. She received her certification for Special Education from Texas State University, San Marcos. She was a teacher for over 43 years. She taught in Marlin and Chilton for many years.

Omelia had many attributes; she had a strong character, a strong moral belief, and strong family values.  She was loveable, dependable, honest, adventurous, supportive, and generous. She loved gospel hymns and vacationing. She believed that our lives should be spent chasing greatness and supported our endeavors to reach those achievements.

She is survived by her sister, Kathy Richardson, and her brother Wilbur Cleveland and his wife Charlene; her nieces, Sherri Humphrey, Terri Bolen, April Ballentine, and nephews, Robert Baker, Chris Cleveland, Brit Cleveland, and Wade Cleveland. She dearly loved her great-nieces and nephews as well; Jason Marmon, Amanda Shults, Taylor Briscoe, Colton Steinke, Billy Ballard II, Aaron Ballard, Andrew Ballentine, and Julie Ballentine. Omelia also fostered Sharon O’Neal Palmer.

Omelia passed away after suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be in Omelia Cox’s honor to the First Christian Church. 5099 State Hwy 7, Marlin, TX 76661.
