Phillip Mike Meuse

Phillip Mike Meuse died this past Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at the age of 82. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Phillip was born in Marlin on June 26, 1940. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Mike Meuse.

He was the first in his family to attend college. Phillip graduated from Texas A&M with a business degree, and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. For all his working life he was involved in management, sales and investments. After military service in the U.S Army Reserve, he worked in the fire and casualty insurance industry. When his father died, he returned to Marlin. He and his wife Genie owned and operated Meuse Furniture Company and Genie’s of Marlin. After the businesses ended, he became an independent furniture representative and retired in 2002. He spent the remainder of his life as a stock market investor.

Phillip met Genie Kyser while both were attending Marlin High School, and they were married August 31, 1963. After retirement, they had the opportunity to travel and spend a lot of time with friends, children and grandchildren. Genie and Phillip were high school and college sweethearts. He was always proud that they had spent nearly/over seventy years together. They had raised two great kids, and he had lived long enough to know and love his five wonderful grandchildren.

He was active in the community, having served as president of the Marlin Chamber of Commerce; president of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, parish council; president of St. Joseph finance council; board member, Boys and Girls Club; various city of Marlin boards, President, Falls County A&M Club, and board member, Southwest Home furnishings Association.

In addition to Genie, he is survived by daughter, Gina and her husband Mark Mitchell; son, Ky and his wife Shannon; his beloved and cherished grandchildren: Samuel and Emily Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, Claire Mitchell, Skyler Meuse, and Gavin Meuse. In addition, sister, JoAnn and brother-in-law Dr. Eddie Joe Davis and his sister, Debbie and brother-in-law Russ Kellen; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Jim Woliver. Also, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home on Sunday, Oct. 2, with rosary following. Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marlin.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, Skyler Meuse, Gavin Meuse, Michael Davis, and Nick Roppolo. Honorary Pallbearers are: Scott Lawrence, Donovan Kirkpatrick, Charles Rush, Walter Smith, Bill Franks, Harry Kenny, Mark Hansen, Jimmy Woliver, Eddie Joe Davis, Russ Kellen, Mark Mitchell, and Edward Reyes.
