Robert Lee (Bob) Charlton, Sr., 85, of Marlin, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home. Graveside services were held Friday, March 3, 2017 in Hillcrest Cemetery with the Reverend Ross Mullens officiating. Military Honors were be provided by Fort Hood Honor Guard.

Bob was born on October 7, 1931 in Wheeling, West Virginia to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Charlton. He joined the United States Army at an early age and served 7 years in the Korean War, he was also in the Honor Guard where he performed 295 funerals. After being discharged from the service he married the love of his life, Mary Christine Grote on May 5, 1957; they were blessed with two lovely children and 59 wonderful years together.

Bob loved doing things and helping other people, he also loved talking about our Lord and witnessing to people at the grocery store, hospital or anywhere he might be. He was a charter member and Deacon at Trinity Memorial Baptist Church for 25 years; he loved to sing specials and go to nursing homes for services once a month.

Bob retired from the City of Marlin as a Water Plant Operator in 1995. Since retiring, Bob and Mary had a wonderful life doing and going places together. He loved his family dearly and also his big white cat, Toogie. Mr. Charlton was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Charlton; son, Robert Charlton, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of marlin; daughter, Donna Marie Charlton of Waco; brother, Ellis Charlton and his wife, Rose and many friends, nieces and nephews.

He will be missed deeply but he’ll always live in our hearts.
