Velia Davila Urive

In the early hours of Oct. 19, 2021, God gained another angel when He called Velia Davila Urive home.

Velia was born in Marlin on Oct. 7, 1955, to parents Ramon Davila and Frances Rosas. She spent the entirety of her life as a resident of Marlin, graduating Marlin High School in 1974 and afterwards attending 4C College in Waco. Velia worked for many years at Marlin ISD and the Falls Educational Cooperative before retiring in 2020.

On May 7, 1977 she married the love of her life Johnny. For nearly 45 years they shared a marriage built upon unconditional love, commitment, selflessness, adventure, and above all else, dedication to the Lord. Together they raised 4 beautiful daughters and helped raise their two grandbabies.

On weekends you could find Velia attending church at Family Worship Center in Waco, out and about shopping with her shopping partner Vanessa, out to dinner with Johnny and their friends, burning up the phone lines at home chitchatting, or staying up into the wee hours of morning watching late-night novelas. Above all else she valued the time spent with her family. She lived for the family get-togethers on weekends, summer vacations to places like Branson, Missouri, Graceland, and Galveston, and she especially loved the holidays, her favorite of which being Christmas. Velia was the definition of class and what a woman of God looks like. She took great pride in her work and loved everyone unconditionally. Nothing will ever fill the void in our hearts now that she is no longer with us, but we take great pride in the everlasting impression that she has left upon the lives of many, especially her girls and her devoted husband. There’s a quote that says “Only those with a heart of gold are truly beautiful, for true beauty after all originates in the heart”. Velia was as beautiful as they come.

Velia is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Davila and Frances Rosas Davila; her sister, Minnie Davila Sabido; niece, Monica Sabido Gonzales; mother-in-law, Angelina Urive; father-in-law, Juan Urive; and brother-in-law, Jessie Urive.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Urive; daughters, Veronica Urive, Angela Urive and fiancé Chris Williams, Vanessa Sabido Salinas and husband Lupe Salinas; grandchildren, Judah Hernandez and Kailyn Hernandez; brother-in-law, Ramon Sabido; and her loyal companion Jax (the family dog) who’s still not allowed on the couch … she’s watching you. A special shout-out to Ricky, Thelma, Mary-Jo and all her primas and primos that she always loved as siblings. She loved everyone with all of her heart.

“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth” – Psalm 34:1 King James Version

The family is hosting a visitation in honor of Velia on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, from 6-8 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home, 129 Coleman Street, Marlin, TX 76661. The Celebration of Life Service will be held the following day Oct. 26, 2021, at 11 a.m., also at Adams Funeral Home.
