gave a presentation of Cowboy Poetry at Bonnie’s Greenhouse for a group of Master Gardeners and realized that not everyone is versed in the history of the American cowboy and as a result, they don’t know or understand what Cowboy Poetry is. So, here is a mini-crash course in the whimsical world of what has become to be a popular pastime in rural western America. And just so you know, a Cowboy Poet will invariably begin with, “Now this is a true story…except for the part I made up.” The poem is a story with meter and rhyme about something that struck the cowboy’s fancy that day. The origin of Cowboy poetry goes a way back in history and probably came to America with the Scotch and Irish immigrants that migrated west after the War of Northern Aggression
