Freedom Ain’t Free

Independence Day is annually celebrated on July 4 and is often known as "the Fourth of July.” It is the anniversary of the United States’ declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776 and this year, 2020, is the 244th year of this anniversary.

America celebrates July 4th as Independence Day because it was on July 4, 1776 that members of the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence thus setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation.

The Declaration of Independence  was written by Thomas Jefferson with revisions by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Jefferson. It was eventually signed by the 56 members of the Second Continental Congress. The signers of the Declaration of Independence knew that their signature was an act of treason against Great Britain, and the penalty would be death if they were captured. It has become one of the most copied political documents of all time, and this Declaration and the American Revolution have since inspired freedom-seekers around the world.

It states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  

It’s my personal belief that if our great country, The United States of America, is to survive the toils and tribulations caused by the world’s current unrest,

WE, as its people, must collectively demand that the federal government adhere to the constitution and uphold and enforce those laws properly. If modern situations give cause for constitutional changes, then there are procedures put in place to make those changes and they should be used.

It is my opinion that all elected officials, including judges, should have term limits. Such limits would help deter temptations that encourage graft and greed! As a result of term limits, we should see more curtailment of power and better accountability. I have heard it said that the American people were once a nation of doers. Our history shows that this is true.

But now, we have become a nation of takers and we have allowed permissiveness to seep into our society. To utter a word of criticism against some of the terrible social practices that have become so commonplace is practically unheard of! Why? Are we afraid that we will be considered “old fashioned” or at the very least out of touch with reality? We need to stiffen our backbone and standup and speak out for what is right! Maybe even reestablish our core values. 

You can’t erase history, even through idiocy, of which there seems to an abundance of. Jesus, in John 13:34-35 commands us to love everyone, and this ol’ country boy finds that some folk make it mighty hard to be obedient to that command. I will be obedient, but I don’t have to agree with the idiocy that is trying to destroy what our founding fathers put in place. Our Nation was founded on Christian principles as a Democracy and I pray that we have the resolve among us to help America remain a free, strong, and a Christian Nation!

As a Christian, I believe that we need to spend a lot of time praying that God will help our country regain its position in the world. Our God is a loving God, but He will not allow us to put material things and loose morals ahead of Him! Pray for Christian leadership. Our forefathers put everything on the line when they signed The Declaration of Independence because they believed in our country and envisioned a people living a life free from tyranny. We need to embrace that thought.

Hats off…Old Glory is passin’ by!

Stand with hand over your heart.

We see this every 4th of July,

as Americans do their part.

 

It is how we honor our flag

an’ remember our history.

It’s a time about which we brag

an’ we’re proud that we are free.

 

Our people have fought an’ died

as they held that flag so high.

Our spirit has been sorely tried,

many a tear comes to our eye.

 

But there is strength of resolve

as we quietly persevere.

Because freedom will evolve

an’ we give a resounding cheer.

 

We thank the Lord for His bounty

an’ for all that proudly gave.

So we enjoy a life that’s free,

here in this land of the brave.

Enjoy this 4th of July holiday and be safe. Take time to pray that God will guide us through this Chinese Communist Virus and pray that the United States will continue to be a Free, Strong, and Christian Nation. Support our leaders as they help keep America Great! And don’t forget to tell our military folks and our veterans “thank you.”… Ask yourself, “What can I do to make a difference?”  And then put that thought into action.
