Happy New Year!

Weekly Devotional

Did you ever wonder why we say "Happy New Year?" We know there will be disappointments and sorrow. Why put ourselves out there to just be let down?

As we reflect this past year, it has been one of the most sorrowful and unusual years since Vietnam or WWII. We have seen so many hurt and sick.

At the time of this writing, there have been almost 350,000 Americans that have lost their lives to Covic-19. We have seen death and sickness of fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, acquaintances and even so many we don't know, but our hearts still hurt for them.

We have seen hatred that is beyond our scope of reasoning. And many people may ask WHY? Why even try to look toward something new?

The answer of course is our life as a Christian and our hope for our eternity in heaven. Nothing is more hopeful than being in Christ.

Nothing should bring us more joy and hope for a brighter day than being in Christ. That is the New Year message we should be asking and letting others receive.

Yes, the New Year will bring disappointments and sorrow, but being in Christ trumps everything else. Being a Christian and a life in Christ makes the hurt and sting of sorrow a little more bearable.

A life in Christ and being a follower of Jesus Christ is what should brighten our life and put a smile on our face. Being in Christ is what makes us the kind of person we should be.

As we end this year of tragedy, we want to look at something new and exciting. It may not happen like we envision, but it will be as God intended.

Let's remember the words of the Apostle Paul, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7).

May we all have a wonderful and blessed New Year and may the peace that passes all understanding guide our life and may God bless us all.

Have a Happy New Year! Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you and the many kind and encouraging words throughout the year.
