Kathaleen Wall Offers Support to Renewed Election Integrity Efforts

Kathaleen Wall, Republican candidate for Texas House District 13, today announced her strong support in favor of Governor Greg Abbott’s call to prohibit Senate Bill 2217 from going into effect, calling the measure “ripe for potential confusion and fraud.”

Under Senate Bill 2217, voters would be able to update their address at a polling location and cast a ballot based on their new precinct or district with a sworn affidavit, as long as they moved within the county. Yesterday, Rep. Briscoe Cain (HD 128) introduced House Bill 295, which would prohibit the measures from Senate Bill 2217 from becoming law. House Bill 295 would allow voters to update their address at their polling location, but the voter would have to wait 30 days for the change to take effect, meaning voters who updated their address on the same day would need to vote in the precinct or district associated with their previous address, granted they moved within the same county.

Governor Abbott recently expanded his agenda for Special Session #2 to include legislation, such as House Bill 295, to bar the provisions under Senate Bill 2217 from taking effect, supporting the need to keep Texas elections secure and removing a same-day voter registration path to voting.

“As a staunch advocate for election integrity, I know Texans should be able to have faith and trust in our election process. I am proud to stand with Governor Abbott in his call to keep our elections secure,” Wall said. “House Bill 296 is a smart, commonsense bill that will protect every Texan’s vote, ensure our voter rolls remain accurate, and prohibit the potential for fraud under Senate Bill 2217.”

A longtime advocate for safe and secure elections across the state, Wall has worked tirelessly to preserve a secure ballot and to ensure trust in our elections. In 2018, Wall was awarded the “Conservative Texans Award” by Texas Scorecard for her work on election integrity.

The bill also introduces civil penalties and other means of action for violations, ensuring accountability and enforcement of the law.
