Moms…You Gotta Love ‘Em
Ol’ Jim Cathey
I am afraid it is just human nature to take for granted all that a mother tends to do for her brood. We enjoy and …yes…expect our “Moms” to do the menial everyday tasks that keep a family operating. Yet, we also expect them to drop everything and give us their full attention the very minute that we have a particular need arise! They are comforter, counselor, healer, provider, and our rock! And it doesn’t matter that they are worn an’ frazzled from a full day’s work, or that they may be sick or feeling bad, or maybe pulled in several directions because of other needs. Nope! You need what you need and you need it now! That’s just the way of human nature. So, let us try this, give this special lady a hug and a smile or even a little peck on the cheek, then tell her thanks and ask her if you could carry part of her load. You will not believe the warmth of her smile or the bright twinkle in her eye that occurs when you do that tiny little bit! A box of candy or some flowers will get you more mileage than you will ever need! Mothers are extremely important… Mary brought us Jesus, our Savior. And others throughout history have brought children into this world that has helped write that history. They are the very backbone of our universe. A void, caused by their absence or incapacity, leaves each of us cold and scared and helpless because we expect them to do it all! Volumes have been written about them. History has depended on them. Our own nation has become great because of them. Democracy has thrived because of them. Families have survived because of them. And you and I are here because of them. They strive to teach us about Jesus, how to live the “Golden Rule”, how to pray and read the Bible, and how to become honest and productive adults. Yes, even the West was won because of them! They are the reason that cowboys have a “no quit” attitude. That’s right, they are the original “no Quit” and they do not allow “can’t” to be a part of their vocabulary. My Mom always said, “Can’t never cooked a biscuit!” This Lady, who managed to keep Dad in line, raise five young’uns while teaching us that Jesus loved us and we should pray daily for His guidance and allow Him to be in control of our lives. She would storm the gates of hell to protect any one of us! And my young bride Stella is just like her! You see, Godly women have the strength of steel, the patience of Job, and love unlimited. Their job seems to be impossible, yet their faith in God carries them forward, constantly growing them to be the anchor that is needed to raise a loving family.
Moms…You Gotta Love ‘Em She might have been your Mom, or she might have been mine, You see, they’re all cut from the same mold, An’as I think back, those memories are mighty fine, But, with age, they get harder to hold.
Can you picture her? Or smell her sweet perfume?
Can you hear her soft voice callin’ out?
Do you sometimes feel her presence in the room?
Where she always took away your doubt.
She’s a Godly woman, her faith is strong, An’ she is not ashamed to show it, She quietly, yet firmly, taught you right from wrong, Lessons best learned, you must admit.
A Christian woman, she shore loves the Lord, And always finds good in everyone, And welcomes each day, no matter how hard, An’ can make the hardest task seem like fun.
She’s a caregiver, follows the Golden Rule, Reads her Bible and prays at bedtime, Does her best to be at church an’ Sunday school, An’ jots her thoughts with rhythm an’ rhyme.
She’s the first to rise, pert near every day, Coffee’ll be ready at first light, An’ is shore ‘nuff hot ‘n black; she likes it that way, Seems as how it made everything right.
Her counsel is filled with wisdom an’ lore, But sometimes, she just listens to you, These times pass quickly an’ you long for more, An’ she’ll pray before you’re through.
How she loves her flowers with their fragrance in the air, Or that gangly legged colt in the shed, Puppies and kittens underfoot, grandkids everywhere, Or soakin’ up the words the preacher said.
Sure an’ there’ll be tough times she must endure, But the grace of God will see her through, She is fiercely independent, strong an’ sure, An’ she believes that God’s word is true.
Does she take up for her kids? I’m here to tell you, YES!
‘Course, she demands that they do right, But don’t unjustly accuse them of a mess, ‘Cuz Pard, she’ll dang shore stand up an’ fight!
Yes, family is shore ‘nuff foremost, But, Himself always gets first care, He’s the head of the family, not one to boast, But to her, he’s a millionaire.
Politics? You always know where she stood, an’ she is loyal to those she picks, An’ she will not change; she’s here for good, I’m tellin’ you, her beliefs are strict!
An’ when it comes to America, or our flag, She is a patriot, undenied, Tho, she’s always careful not to brag, But she will not suppress her pride.
We thank God for the Mothers of this world, With their love an’ mercies to impart, Tho, trials an’ tribulations often swirled, There’s nothing greater than a Mother’s heart.
Of course you know, she’s a lady all the time, Mothers understand the pattern to uphold, An’ life can be music, song, or rhyme, You see, they’re all cut from the same mold!
If you still have your Mom, go to church with her. It’s important to her!
Maybe bring her to First Baptist Marlin where we will honor her!
God bless Mothers everywhere and God Bless America!
