Some Trades Are Not Worth Making

Weekly Devotional

In January of 1920, the Boston Red Sox traded a player by the name of George Herman Ruth to the New York Yankees for $125,000 cash and $300,000 in loans. While at the time this trade did not seem all that significant, many now consider it the greatest blunder in Major League Baseball history.

George Herman Ruth, also known as "The Babe" , would help lead the Yankees to seven American League pennants and four World Series titles and would go down in history as one of the greatest if not the greatest MLB players of all time.

Have you ever made a trade that might seem like a good deal at the time but in the end the trade was not all that good. I'm afraid that probably all of us have been guilty of this mistake at some time or another in our lives. But how about our spiritual lives?

Peter tell us that satan "goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour." (I Peter 5:8)

He wants us to make a trade. He wants us to trade our souls for the pleasures of this life.

In Matthew 4:8-9, we find that Satan is tempting Jesus in the wilderness. He takes Jesus to a "very high mountain" and wants Jesus to fall down and worship him.

In return, Satan said he would give Him all the kingdoms of the world. Did Jesus make the trade? Absolutely Not!

Jesus told him, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and Him only shalt thou serve,"

If Satan will tempt our Lord and Savior like this, he will surely do the same thing to you and I. But Jesus asked, "For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose your own soul." (Matthew 16:26)

Don't let Satan trick you into making a trade. It could cost us our very soul.
