Togetherness

As you are reading this letter today, the election is over, and we have survived what many have felt could destroy us as a community and nation. I want to appeal to the consciousness of each of you today to not allow the divisiveness of the nation to impact how we view, treat, and interact with each other here.

Equally important is that we do not allow others to infiltrate the sanctity of our community and how we interact with one another.  We have more that is the same than is different from each other and we can coexist in harmony.  We cannot allow society to force us to define ourselves in terms of red or blue, Democrat or Republican, left or right.

We are a community of resilient individuals who have shared ups and downs and we are rising out of our own ashes together. We are a community of different races, backgrounds, talents, and gifts. We recognize that we do not always think the same, but we are better for the different perspectives that we are blessed to encounter.

We uplift each other.  We support each other. We know that times change, and leaders change but our goals for our community and ourselves remain constant.  As we look upon the unrest, protests, hatred, and civil disrespect displayed through media and social media sites across our state, nation, and world, let us not engage in behaviors that would further create decline or destruction within our own community.

As we continue the path that the Most High God has established for Marlin, let us remain protective of the assets we have in our community which includes ourselves, our neighbors, our homes, and our businesses.  Let us support and uplift our law enforcement personnel as they work to ensure that each of us remain safe from outside agitators who may seek to harm us or our community.  Let us remain watchful for signs that others seek to do harm and alert law enforcement to these actions.

Despite the outcomes of the elections held, we have a goal and a mission in Marlin, and we must not allow the behaviors of others to deter us from that goal.  Please engage in fervent prayer for our nation and world.  Let us continue to provide the example of togetherness that the rest of the world needs to see.

I am grateful to be your Mayor and I am equally grateful for the pleasure of living in such as community as Marlin is working to become.

Peace and blessings,

Hon. Carolyn Lofton
