Basketball Weekly for Central Region

As many students enjoyed two weeks off for their Christmas break, many athletes only got a couple of days off as they had practice and were on the court playing ball. The following are hoop summaries from the central region over the break.

Cameron

The Yoemen (8-10) competed in the Rosebud-Lott Tournament Dec. 2930. They lost to a non-varsity opponent in overtime 49-46 and Granger 54-45 before coming back and picking up wins over Crawford 65-41 and Florence 6443. Cameron hosted the Franklin Lions in their first district game on Friday, Jan. 2, and fell by a basket 45-43.

The Lady Yoe (11-11) took second place in the Burton Tournament and were Co-Champions of the Thorndale Tournament over the break. In the Burton Tournament, the Lady Yoe defeated Brenham 50-32 before falling to Burton 6045. In the Thorndale Tournament, Cameron defeated Thorndale 36-30, Valley Mills 45-27, Gonzales 4440, and Axtell 52-50.

Cameron traveled to Thrall on Tuesday night, Jan. 6. They will host Rogers on Friday night, Jan. 9. The teams have a bye next Tuesday, Jan. 13. Girls games are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and the boys will follow around 7:30 p.m.

Milano

The Eagles (0-10) competed in the Mumford Tournament and fell to Junction 50-26, Ferris 58-43, and Snook 77-28. On Friday, Jan. 2, Milano hosted Granger and fell to the Lions 71-34.

The Lady Eagles (4-20) competed in the Thondale Tournament and came up short to Axtell 37-12, Rogers 44-10, Chilton 4419, and Valley Mills 35-29. Milano fell to the Granger Lady Lions 46-14 on Friday, Jan. 2.

Milano traveled to Holland on Tuesday night, Jan. 6. They will host Bartlett on Friday night, Jan. 9, before having a bye next Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Thorndale

The Bulldogs (15-4) competed in the Tenaha Holiday Hoops Tournament. They lost to Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill 46-36. Case McDaniel had 21 points and 8 rebounds. Thorndale came back and defeated Union Hill 49-26. Case McDaniel had 11 points and 5 rebounds; Kale Meadors 9 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists; andWyatt Betak 9 points, 8 rebounds. The Bulldogs then defeated Timpson 53-24. Kale Meadors had 18 points, 6 rebounds; Case McDaniel 10 points, 5 rebounds; Ethan Schramm 9 points, 8 rebounds. In the silver bracket championship, Thorndale knocked-off Shelbyville 80-25. Case McDaniel had 19 points, Wyatt Betak 17 points, 9 rebounds; Kale Meadors 12 points; Tristan Garcia 10 points, 5 assists; Ethan Schramm 9 points, 5 assists. Both Case McDaniel and Kale Meadors were named to the All-Tournament Team. On Friday, Jan. 2, the Bulldogs defeated Rosebud- Lott 51-47 in a district game.

The Lady Dogs (15-11) competed in the Thorndale Shootout Tournament. They lost to Cameron Yoe 36-30 and then defeated Valley Mills 41-24 on the first day of the tournament. On the second day of the tournament, they lost to Crawford 46-14 before defeating Rogers 32-29. Thorndale defeated Rosebud-Lott 2320 on Friday, Jan. 2.

Thorndale hosted McDade on Tuesday night, Jan. 6. This Friday night, Jan. 9, is a bye night. The Bulldogs will travel to play Little River Academy. Both the girls and boys will travel to Granger next Tuesday, Jan. 13. The girls games are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and the boys games at 7:30 p.m.

Rosebud-Lott

The Cougars (12-7) competed in their own tournament over the break. They defeated Bishop Reicher Catholic 72-48, a nonvarsity opponent 44-41, and Coolidge 39-37 before falling to a non-varsity opponent 51-27. On Friday night, the Cougars fell to Thorndale in a district game 51-47.

The Lady Cougars (129) defeated Somerville on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 61-40. On Friday, Jan. 2, they lost to Thorndale in a district match-up 23-20.

Rosebud-Lott traveled to Granger on Tuesday night, Jan. 6. They will host Holland on Friday, Jan. 9, before traveling to Bartlett next Tuesday, Jan. 13. The girls are scheduled to play at 5:45 p.m. and the boys at 7:15 p.m.

Marlin

The Bulldogs (4-16) competed in a tournament and fell to Grandview 6361, Lake Belton 70-30, Cleburne 39-26, and Bremond 41-36. The boys took on Buffalo on Friday, Jan. 2, and fell to the Bison 66-50.

The Lady Bulldogs (118) competed in a tournament and fell to Glen Rose 58-19 and defeated Lumberton 55-48 on the first day of the tournament. Marlin took on Pollok Central and Snook on the second day of the tournament. As of press time, these scores were not available.

Marlin traveled to Riesel on Tuesday night, Jan. 6. They will Axtell on Friday night, Jan. 9, before hosting Chilton next Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Chilton

The Pirates (2-7) fell to Mart in a nail-biter, 36-34, on Friday, Jan. 2 The Lady Pirates (14-9) competed in a tournament on Dec. 29 and 30. They lost to Crawford 54-50 and Gonzales 51-41 on the first day of the tournament before defeating Valley Mills 40-27 and Milano 44-19 on the second day of the tournament. Chilton lost to Mart on Friday, Jan. 2, 3226.

Chilton hosted Moody on Tuesday night, Jan. 6. They will travel to Bruceville-Eddy on Friday night, Jan. 9, before hosting Marlin next Tuesday, Jan. 13.
