Bulldogs defeat Bremond 45-30

The Marlin Bulldogs went on the road to take the Bremond Tigers on Jan. 19, defeating them 45-30 in a game where they pulled away in the third quarter. 

After a fairly even first half the Bulldogs outscored Bremond 24-12 in the second half. 

Marlin started out the first quarter strong and surged to a 7-2 lead. They would score on a layup by Tremayne Richardson (5) for a 9-4 lead, which was followed by a fastbreak layup by Derion Gullette (4) to make the lead 11-7 Bulldogs. The first quarter ended with Marlin ahead of Bremond 11-7.

The Bulldogs started the second quarter on a scoring run that was aided with a three-pointer by Richardson to make the lead widen to 16-11. Marlin kept up their perimeter shooting with another three point make by Jordan Womack (15) making the score 21-16. Halftime ended with the Bulldogs winning 21-18.

Bremond closed the gap in the third quarter and made score 25-24. The Bulldogs responded with a layup by Richardson to take a 27-24 lead. The scoring run continued with a three pointer by Ke’untre Thomas (1) to extend the lead 30-24. Marlin then scored a on a three point buzzer beater by Gullette to increase the lead for the Bulldogs 33-24 at end of the third quarter.

To start the fourth quarter, Marlin continued their scoring spurt on the Tigers and grew the score to a commanding 38-24 lead. The Bulldogs scored again on a layup by K’jahmarrey Wilson (20) for a 40-24 lead. The lead further widened to 44-24 and went onto win 45-30. 

The next matchup for the Marlin boys’ team was a battle on the road against the Mart Panthers on Friday. They soundly defeated the Panthers 61-50. The Bulldogs then headed on the road again to take on the Longhorns of Axtell.
