Bulldogs defeat Bruceville-Eddy, sit at 6-0 in district pl
The Marlin Bulldogs basketball team hosted the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles on Friday, Jan. 17. Marlin demolished the Eagles, winning 90-25.
The Bulldogs began the game strong with three consecutive baskets by Jaidan Womack (11) for a 6-0 start. Marlin stayed tough with a basket by Aarik Smith-Shelley (12) to make it a 10-2 lead. The first quarter ended with Marlin ahead 13-5.
The Bulldogs scored first in the second quarter with an offensive rebound and layup by Roderick Suiters (1) for a 15-5 lead. Marlin showed deep range with a three point make by Smith-Shelley to make it a 21-12 advantage.
The Bulldogs also displayed great transition scoring with a fastbreak layup by Keyshaun Massington (3) off a nice assist by Jordan Womack (4) to grow the margin to 23-12. Marlin continued their scoring run to 13-0 to make their lead 36-12 and went into halftime leading 39-12 after a buzzer beating three pointer by Jaidan Womack.
The Bulldogs scored first in the third quarter with a fastbreak layup by Suiters for a 41-12 lead and increased that lead to 51-14. Marlin continued to play tough with a steal and fastbreak layup by Jaidan Womack for commanding 55-15 lead. The Bulldog kept up the pressure with a fastbreak layup by Kei’Ayr Young (5) to make it a 63-19 advantage. That was followed by a massive dunk from Jordan Womack to increase the lead to 65-19. The third quarter ended with Marlin out in front 65-21.
The Bulldogs scored first in the fourth quarter with a layup by Suiters off an assist by Jaidan Womack for a whopping 67-23 lead. Marlin continued to pull away and finished with a 23-2 surge to soundly win over the Eagles 90-25.
With this victory, Marlin now has a record of 14-4 and a perfect district record of 6-0, standing alone in first place in the district standings. Marlin did not play on Tuesday as it was their off day.
Up next, the Bulldogs will travel to take on the Riesel Indians. The game will be on Friday, Jan. 24, and tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
