Bulldogs headed for playoffs

The Marlin Bulldogs football team annihilated the Axtell Longhorns on Friday 79-0 to secure themselves the second seed going into the playoffs. 

Marlin started the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Desmond Woodson (7) to Trajon Butler (0) for a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs kept it up with a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Ty Harris (2) for the 14-0 lead. They then ended the first quarter with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Woodson to Derion Gullette (4) in the last minute of the quarter for a 21-0 score. 

The onslaught began in the second quarter with a pick six by Tyraun Bell (5) for a 28-0 game. Marlin would then get a 1-yard touchdown run from Gullette for a 35-0 lead. Marlin continued their dominance on an 8-yard touchdown run by Woodson for a 44-0 lead. The Bulldogs went deep on an 83-yard touchdown pass from Woodson to Gullette for a 51-0 lead. Marlin finished the first half with a last minute touchdown for 58 yards from Woodson to Butler for a 58-0 lead going into halftime. 

Harris started off the scoring in the third quarter with a 34-yard touchdown run for a 65-0 lead. With under two minutes left in the quarter, the Bulldogs got a 4-yard rushing touchdown by Ja’marien Womack (22) to increase the lead to 72-0. Marlin finished the offensive explosion with a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Jemere Hartsfield (24) in the fourth quarter for a 79-0 victory. 

Desmond Woodson played phenomenal as he threw for 231 yards and five touchdowns along with rushing for 55 yards and a touchdown. Ty Harris was incredible as he rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and Ja’marien Womack was just as incredible as he ran for 135 yards and a touchdown. 

Trajon Butler was outstanding as he recorded 108 receiving yards and caught two touchdowns. The defense was unstoppable as they only allowed 15 total passing yards and nine first downs, forced a fumble, and caught three interceptions (one of them for a touchdown). 

The Bulldogs are set to take on Bosqueville on Friday night in Robinson in the first round of the playoffs. Marlin will be the home team. Game time is 7 p.m. The address for Robinson High School is 500 W Lyndale Ave., Robinson TX 76706.
