Bulldogs headed to regional quarterfinals

The Marlin Bulldogs football team defeated the Lindsay Knights 48-7 in the area round of the playoffs on Nov. 19. 

Both teams went scoreless throughout the first quarter, and the Bulldogs started the scoring in the second quarter with a bang as they recovered a fumble by Lindsay for a 60-yard touchdown. The score would be 6-0 after a missed extra point. 

Lindsay answered back with a 1-yard touchdown run to take the lead 7-6. The Bulldogs then responded with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Desmond Woodson (7) to Trajon Butler (0) to retake the lead 14-7 after a success two-point conversion. The defense would do some more scoring as they scored their second touchdown on a fumble return, this time for 25 yards. With this score, the Bulldogs lead grew to 22-7 after another successful two-point conversion. With less than a minute in the second quarter, Woodson completed a 35-yard pass to Derion Gullette (4) for a touchdown and increased the lead to 28-7 at halftime after a missed extra point. 

In the third quarter, Butler would kick off the scoring for the second half in a big way on a 54-yard touchdown run for a 36-7 lead after another successful two-point conversion. Butler later continued his dominance with an 89-yard touchdown run for a 42-7 lead after a failed two point conversion. In the fourth quarter, Ty Harris (2) joined on the action and capped off the scoring for Marlin with a 3-yard rushing touchdown for a 48-7 victory following a successful two point conversion. 

Desmond Woodson played amazing as he completed eight of nine passes and threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Ty Harris played great as he rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown. Derion Gullette was great as had 108 receiving yards on just four catches along with a touchdown and caused a fumble on defense. 

Trajon Butler was a kid who could not be stopped as he rushed for 148 yards on three carries for two touchdowns, and also had 101 receiving yards on three catches for a touchdown. The defense was also outstanding as they held Lindsay to just 14 passing yards, forced two fumbles, and had an interception. 

The next game for the Marlin Bulldogs will be against the Tolar Rattlers in the regional quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 26. The game will be played at Charles Head Stadium located in Alvarado. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
