Bulldogs winless on first day of Rosebud-Lott Tournament
The Marlin Bulldogs basketball team participated in an in-season tournament hosted by Rosebud-Lott High school Monday and Tuesday.
They played two games on Monday, and their first game was against the Shoemaker Wolves JV team. The Bulldogs were defeated 66-58.
The Bulldogs would score on a successful three point play by Tremayne Richardson (5) for a 5-3 lead. They kept up the pressure with a putback layup by Derion Gullette (4) and a fastbreak layup by Tyraun Bell (32) for a 12-7 lead. Marlin scored again on a layup by K’jahmarrey Wilson (20) for a 20-14 lead, which would be the score at the end of the first quarter.
Shoemaker crept back and made it a 20-17 game. Marlin extended their lead with a three pointer by Roderick Suiters (21) for a 23-17 lead. The game stayed tight at 25-20 until Shoemaker tied it at 26. Marlin took the lead right back to make the score 30-26. Their lead grew to 33-29, and that would be the score at halftime.
Marlin scored on a layup by Richardson for a 38-33 lead. Shoemaker came back again and tied it at 38, then took the lead 42-40. After that, Shoemaker began to pull away as Marlin began to struggle and the deficit for the Bulldogs grew to 47-40. The third quarter ended with Marlin trailing 49-44. The Bulldogs tried to start a rally with a fastbreak layup by Ty Harris (3) for a 53-48 game. Shoemaker was able to contain Marlin and kept the lead at 62-58, and they would hand Marlin a 66-58 loss.
Later in the day, Marlin played their second and final game of the day against the Whitney Wildcats. The Bulldogs would go winless on the day as they would be defeated by the Wildcats 67-55.
