Though the game against Granger started out rough for Chilton the Pirates quickly made second half adjustments that would help catapult them to a 13-6 early season win making them 1-0 to kick off the 2017 season.
In county showdown this week
CHILTON vS. ROSEbud-LOTT ON SEPTEmbEr 8 AT 7:30 P.m. AT ROSEbud-LOTT
After an exciting seasoning opening game against the visiting Granger Lions the Pirates will now prepare to hit the road against currently the undefeated Rosebud-Lott Cougars.
The showdown between the two teams will happen on Friday, September 8 at 7:30 p.m.
This game honestly has the making of a good old-fashioned slobber knocker as both teams are riding on a wave of momentum following early season victories.
Rosebud-Lott is fresh off of a 34-29 as the road team against the Florence Buffaloes last Friday night. Now that the first week jitters are out of their systems Chilton will spend the next week looking to make several corrections from the game against Granger.
Chilton managed to make a second half comeback finishing off Granger with a 13-6 win. With about 30 seconds left in the first half of the game Granger managed to break off a big play from around midfield to get them down to the end zone for the first time.
On fourth down they managed to barely cross the goal line to make it 6-0, following the touchdown the extra point attempt by Granger was blocked by the Pirates which would keep the score at 6-0.
With only 15 seconds left in the first half Chilton proceeded to kneel the ball to take the game into halftime.
During halftime the coaches must have said exactly what the Pirates needed to hear because it was all business going into the second half.
The tough Chilton defense would continue to stay stubborn and stingy, as the Lions would not score for the remainder of the game.
However, it was Chilton who would put together the right kind of plays to lead them to the 13-6 win.
Perhaps the biggest thing that coaches will work on throughout the upcoming week will be turnovers. Chilton fumbled a few times on what could have possibly been big plays early on in the game.
But they also failed to capitalize on some errant throws from Granger.
If the Pirates can sort out a few things going into the game at Rosebud-Lott then they can potentially pull off the win making them 2-0 in non-district play.
