Gullette named Coach of the Year, girls honors announced

Marlin’s own Lawrence Gullettewas named the Coach of the Year for District 18. 

He joined the MISD team prior to the 2016-2017 season. Marlin won 26 games that first season and has led the team to the second round of the UIL state playoffs each season since. There have only been two district match loses with the athlete at the head.

The Lady Bulldogs came out of the 2020-2021 season with yet another district and bi-district playoff title. With an undefeated season and eleven wins behind them, the Lady Bulldogs lost to the LaPoynor Flyers in the area round with a final score of 51-46

Marlin’s team had a number of returning players this year, as well as some new faces. 

Father/daughter duo composed of Coach Gullette and senior Aniya Williams rocked out the honors with Williams scoring the Most Outstanding Player of the Year award.

Veteran player senior Yasmen Maxwell was named Offensive Player of the Year, while freshman Shawna Robinson was named Newcomer of the Year.

All-District and Academic All-District awards were announced as well, with a number of Marlin players making the rosters.

The Bulldogs on the First Team All-District are: Amyah Mason (Sr.,) Kendria Trotter (Jr.); Second Team All-District: Aleighseya Washington (Sr.,) Charlesetta Lewis (Sr.);  and Taliyah Davis (Sr.) received Honorable Mention.

Academic All-District team members are: Taliyah Davis (Sr.), Amyah Mason (Sr.), Charlesetta Lewis (Sr.), Aleighseya Washington (Sr.), Yasmen Maxwell (Sr.), Aniya Williams (Sr.), and McKenna Johnson (Jr.)

The 2022 season is set to be another great one, with plans to return to championship rounds and ride their way to the State Champ title.
