Lady Bulldogs compete in Rosebud-Lott Tournament
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs volleyball team participated in an in season tournament hosted by Rosebud-Lott over the weekend.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the weekend with a record of 1-4. Marlin played three games on Thursday.
The first game was against the Moody Lady Cats. Marlin swept Moody, winning the first set 26-24 and the second set 27-25. Their next game was against the Milano Lady Eagles. Milano swept Marlin 2-0.
The first point of the first set went to Marlin. The Lady Bulldogs quickly lost the lead but got a big block by Keundra Wilson (3) for a 3-2 deficit. Milano went on the attack and grew an 8-2 over Marlin. Marlin tried to fight back with an ace by Shawna Robinson (4) to make it a 9-4 deficit, but then Milano went on a 4-0 run to stay ahead 13-4. then grew their lead to double digits at 19-9. Marlin tried to start a rally, which was aided by an ace from Wilson for a 20-13 deficit. The Lady Bulldogs stayed alive with a block by Aaryha Johnson (11) to make it a 24-16 deficit and made the score 24-18, but it was not enough as Marlin lost the first set 25-18.
The first point of the second set went to Marlin, then Marlin trailed 5-2 after Milano went on a 5-1 run. The Lady Bulldogs marched back and tied the set at 5 with two consecutive aces by Robinson. Milano responded with a 5-0 run to lead Marlin 10-5. The Lady Bulldogs ended the drought with a big block by Aaryha Johnson to make it a 10-6 deficit.
Marlin made the score 10-8, but Milano answered with a 3-0 run to go up 13-8, and soon grew the Marlin deficit to 16-9. Marlin tried to stay in the set with a kill by Robinson to make the score 19-12. The Lady Bulldogs continued to stay aggressive with a big kill by Aaryha Johnson for a 22-15 deficit, which was soon followed with an ace by Chaz Lofton (10) to close the gap to 23-18.
The Lady Bulldogs tried to fight their way back, but it wasn’t enough and would lose the second set 25-21 to lose the match.
Their final match of the day was the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars. Marlin was swept by Rosebud-Lott, losing the first and second set 25-15. After going 1-2 in pool play, Marlin went into the Saturday bracket as a three seed.
Their first game of the day was the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs. Marlin was swept by Bosqueville, losing the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-14. Their final game of the tournament was the Chilton Lady Pirates. Marlin was unable to secure the victory against Chilton.
