Lady Bulldogs headed to next round

The Marlin Lady Bulldogs handily defeated Bruceville-Eddy 66-32 in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Monday night. 

The Marlin Lady Bulldogs basketball team traveled out to Robinson to face the Lady Eagles.

Marlin started the game strong with a free throw by Laneshia Massington (22) and two threes by Mckenna Johnson (2) for a 7-0 start that turned into a 9-2 start. The Lady Bulldogs continued to stay hot with a layup by Shawna Robinson (4) for a massive 15-2 lead. Marlin continued to play complimentary ball with a layup by Robinson off a nice assist by Johnson for a 19-3 lead. The first quarter ended with Marlin ahead 23-7.

The scoring in the second quarter for Marlin started with another three pointer by Johnson for a 26-7 lead. That would be followed with a layup by Kendria Trotter (00) to make it a 28-11 lead. The Lady Dogs continued to dominate with a layup by Robinson to make the lead 34-13. Marlin would head into halftime winning 35-13.

The Lady Dogs kept their foot on the gas pedal and scored on a fastbreak layup by Johnson for a 39-15 lead and would increase the lead to 44-17. Malin stayed hot from the perimeter with a three-point make by Kendria Mason (10) for a 50-22 lead. The third quarter ended with Marlin way ahead of the Lady Eagles 52-25. The Lady Dogs started the fourth quarter with a layup by Massington for a 54-25 lead. They piled on with another layup by Johnson to make the score 61-30. Marlin would extend the lead to 66-32, which would be the final score as they would come out victorious over Bruceville-Eddy. 

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will take on the LaPoynor Lady Flyers in the area round on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Corsicana High School.
