Lady Dogs remain undefeated in district

The Marlin Lady Bulldogs girls’ basketball team hosted the Bruceville-Eddy Lady Eagles on Friday, Jan. 17. 

Marlin annihilated the Lady Eagles, winning 91-18. 

The Lady Bulldogs began the game with free throws by Aaria Johnson (2) for a 2-0 start. That was soon followed with a layup by Keundra Wilson (22) off an assist by Aaria Johnson for a 4-2 lead. Marlin surged ahead and increased their lead to 15-2. 

The Lady Bulldogs stayed aggressive with a layup by Wilson to make it a 19-5 advantage. The first quarter ended with Marlin ahead 24-5. 

Marlin scored first in the second quarter with a layup by Wilson to take a 26-5 lead. That was followed with a successful three point play by Ra’Niyah Blow (32) to widen the margin to 29-5. Those points were the start of a 13-0 spurt to go ahead 37-5. Marlin continued to dominate with a layup by Wilson for a 41-9 lead, and finished the quarter on a 10-3 run to go into halftime up 51-12.

Marlin scored first in the third quarter with back-to-back layups by Wilson to make it a 55-12 lead. Those layups would be the start of an 18-0 surge to help Marlin pull away 69-12. The onslaught continued with a fastbreak layup by Taylor Wright (5) for a whopping 75-14 lead. 

The third quarter ended with Marlin dominating 77-14. The Lady Bulldogs scored first in the fourth quarter with a fastbreak layup by Aaria Johnson to take a gigantic 79-14 lead. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with a 12-4 run to win the game 91-18.

With this victory, Marlin now has a record of 13-6 and a perfect district record of 8-0, standing alone in first place in the district standings. 

Marlin did not play on Tuesday as it was their off day. 

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to take on the Riesel Lady Indians. The game will be on Friday, Jan. 24, and tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m.
