Lady Dogs swept by Rosebud-Lott
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs volleyball team hosted the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars. Marlin would be swept by the Lady Cougars 3-0.
The first set stayed even until Rosebud-Lott pulled away and took a 16-9 lead. Marlin broke the drought with a kill by Aaryha Johnson (11) for 16-10 score. The Lady Cougars continued to stay ahead with an ace to make it an 18-11 deficit. Marlin tried to stay alive with an ace by Aaryha Johnson to make the score 20-12. Rosebud-Lott grew their lead to double digits on an ace for a 23-13 lead over Marlin and would lose the first set 25-13.
The first point of the second set went to Rosebud-Lott. Marlin kept the game close with a kill by Marielena Diaz (6) to shorten the Lady Cougar lead to 3-2. Rosebud-Lott remained ahead and scored a kill to take an 8-5 lead. Marlin fought their way back and scored on ace by Aaryha Johnson close the gap to 8-7.
The Lady Bulldogs tied the set at 8 then took the lead 10-9. Marlin extended their lead to 12-9 on an ace by Jermoriah Mayes (2). The Lady Cougars rallied back and tied the set at 14 with an ace. Rosebud-Lott retook the lead 18-17, then soon increased their lead with two consecutive aces to make the score 21-17. The Lady Cougars finished the job and pulled away to win the second set 25-17.
The first point of the third set went to Rosebud-Lott. Marlin responded with a 4-1 run with help from a block by Arrihanna Johnson (8) to take a 4-2 lead. The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead with two consecutive aces by Aaria Johnson (5) to have the Lady Bulldogs ahead 8-3.
Rosebud-Lott continued to fight and scored on an ace to make it a 10-5 deficit, but Marlin answered back and grew their lead to 12-6. The Lady Cougars broke the drought with a big kill to make the score 12-7. Rosebud-Lott clawed their way back and closed the gap to 12-11 on a block. The Lady Cougars tied the set at 12 then took the lead 13-12. The Lady Cougars continued to grow their lead with a 3-0 run to make the score 16-12. Rosebud-Lott stayed ahead with a kill for an 18-13 lead. Marlin tried to start a rally but Rosebud-Lott stopped their momentum with a kill, making lead 22-16. Rosebud-Lott finished strong to win the third set 25-18 and to complete the sweep over Marlin.
With this loss, Marlin now has a record of 11-10. After a home game against the Riesel Lady Indians on Tuesday, the Lady Cougars travel to take on the Bremond Lady Tigers. The game will be on Friday and is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
