The Search for Duke Tisdale
After taking a DNA test on Ancestry.com, I saw my Marlin ancestors were linked to Kingstree in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. This led to my search for Duke Tisdale. The search started with my great-great-grandfather, Anthony Tisdale Shaw, who was born enslaved on the William Tisdale plantation in Williamsburg County. This was the last place he lived before running away to fight in the Civil War. Anthony ran to Georgetown, South Carolina and enlisted on May 8, 1865. He was assigned to Company G, 104th Regiment of the U.S. Colored Infantry.
