The Falls County Commissioners Court met on May 26. Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F. A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3). Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4) and ADA Steve Sharp were not in attendance.
Gaylon Durrell Garrett, son of Bishop Lonnie & Gail Garrett of Waco- Marlin received his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science degree with the concentration of Education from the University of North Texas, Denton on May 10. It was considered a Mother’s Day gift for his Mom.
Rotary’s core pillar for education is called Basic Education and Literacy. It is one of Rotary’s seven designated Areas of Focus, dedicated to promoting a lifelong joy of reading Demonstrating this literacy initiative on May 26, Rotarians Jay Elliott and Letitia Estep of the Rotary Club of Marlin passed out books to Marlin Elementary School Pre-Pre-K, Pre-K, kindergarten, first and second grade students. Advancing through the various books organized by grade levels, the young students chose and kept the book of their choice with curiosity and excitement.
The Rotary Club of Marlin supports education through scholarships, reflecting one of Rotary International’s seven core Areas of Focus.
